Device Smart develop unique security deterrents for home automation, banking and retail markets through the professional security, integration and electrical channels.

Products are often developed based on client ideas, these ideas have then rapidly evolved into effective solutions, with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. Although our products are initially developed for specific applications they can be used anywhere suitable and relevant.

Residential

Residential applications were the first focus for Device Smart, hence the discreet nature of the Night Sabre range of products. Now the focus has shifted from motion activated lighting to escalating deterrent. When coupled with outdoor motion sensors from manufacturers like Ajax the escalating deterrent function provokes a change in behaviour of intruders. 

The motion activated lighting will turn on at 9m, then if the intruder gets closer to the perimeter of the property they may trigger a curtain beam detector or camera analytics which then activates the blue and red strobe effect in the NS-45PA lights. Intruders will assume they have triggered the property alarm system and their fight or flight response will most likely encourage them to leave before attempting to break in.Our Night Sabre products were initially developed for home owners to create a unique security deterrent which were both discreet and powerful. They are include high brightness LED technology in a sleek and discreet weatherproof form. These beautifully crafted aluminium floodlights can fit under a windowsill, above a door or under the eaves, perfect for residential properties. 

Night Sabre and AJAX

A residential client in Buckinghamshire required additional security around their property. They wanted specific focus to be on the garage area where motorbikes and cars were stored. The client can spend extended periods of time away from the property and works late, so having additional security measures was a crucial part of the install. The client already had a CCTV system in place and was utilising an Ajax System. This made the upgrade relatively simple. 2x NS-45PA in white were installed above the garage doors, initially giving the client high brightness motion activated lights.

Banking Sector

Device Smart was challenged by one of the worlds largest banks to create a discreet security solution for High Street ATMs. We collaborated with a number of banks and the ATM Security Working Group to ensure all of the potential functions were included in a single device this resulted in ATM Sentry. The resulting product incorporated a high resolution IP camera, motion activated white light, infrared lighting for night vision and a blue strobe that would be triggered when the ATM was attacked. Subsequently a variation on ATM Sentry was used to protect fire exits and other vulnerable areas on the banks to manage problems like rough sleeping or antisocial behaviour around these properties.

Retail

Two distinct areas of product development were brought to Device Smart by major retailers; glazing protection and enhancement of effectiveness of public view monitors. 
 
For glazing protection we utilised the escalating deterrent feature within ATM Sentry and coupled it with vibration sensors placed around window frames. The system is armed when the retailer sets the intruder alarm system and any subsequent attack on the doors or windows results in a series of blue strobing alarms on the front of the store. Over the course of the last two years this has proved to be highly effective and reduced broken windows for all of the retailers that have deployed this solution.
 
Pulsar was created in response to a major retailer complaining that the CCTV system was no longer an effective deterrent to shoplifting. Previously public view monitors had been installed in stores to raise awareness of the CCTV but now people had become accustomed to the PVMs and would no longer notice them. Pulsar uses a very simple psychological principle to make people look up at the PVMs as they enter a store by simply pulsing LED lights when motion is detected in front of the monitor. It’s proving to be highly effective in shrinkage reduction and is very easy to deploy making it very cost effective.

Construction

An advantage of Night Sabres being low-voltage devices is that they can easily be supported by batteries and solar panels. Our Solar Security products work off grid to provide motion activated lighting or even escalating deterrent when combined with wireless motion detectors or low voltage vibration sensor this can be a very cost-effective rapid deployment system as well as providing long-term perimeter protection. Our customers are using the solutions for scaffolding alarms and protecting fence lines on vulnerable residential projects as well as vacant properties and off grid locations.
